Wedding Ring Redesign and Upgrade
Wedding rings are symbolic and carry a lot of weight for many women and couples. My incredibly kind assistant, Joy, recently went through the process and knew that upgrading a wedding ring is something many women think about, so it’s worth sharing. and read Joy’s experience, tips on how to start redesigning your ring, finding the right jeweler, and more…
Reasons to redesign your wedding ring
Redesigning, upgrading, or redoing a wedding ring is a very personal decision, and there are many reasons why someone might want their wedding ring redone. As styles and tastes change, some women may want to update their look. If they get divorced, they may want to change the symbolic meaning of the ring and perhaps pass it on to their children.
When my husband and I got married, we were just 19 and 20 and didn’t have much money. Thankfully, I was able to use a diamond inherited from my grandmother. Fast forward 27 years to this May. I was sitting at my computer looking down at my hand and seeing the main diamond falling out of the ring. I was devastated and frantically searched everywhere and prayed for several days.
During that time my husband always told me he wanted to invest in me to upgrade my ring and now that my financial situation is better I felt it was time to do so. Did. The next day, I miraculously found diamonds on the carpet!!Now you don’t have to spend that money on a new ring.He looked at me and said he absolutely still wants to buy me a new ring. I appreciate it very much.
But… this was the moment I really struggled with. It was difficult for me to feel worthy of receiving such an expensive gift. I found my diamond and felt like I didn’t “deserve” anything else. I know I’m not the only woman who has ever been in this position or experienced this “worthlessness” that I was feeling. , this feeling of worthlessness, not I’ve redone the ring or brought it to my partner. It’s all too easy to get caught up in that negative narrative in our heads. But it’s important to break that cycle and start telling ourselves positive truths. Each of us brings a unique gift to those around us. It should be blessed!
How to start redesigning your wedding ring
Find inspiration and ask questions
Once we agreed to proceed with the creation of the ring, we began our investigation. I’m a researcher at heart and I love it. The downside is that I tend to over-research! I searched Pinterest, online-only jewelry stores, brick-and-mortar stores, and Etsy. I had read their reviews too! People will say “I love this place! Best experience ever!” and the next person will say “Don’t trust this store!”. It was a very expensive purchase and I didn’t want to be taken advantage of. I felt numb. I decided to take a break for a few days as the spark of excitement had died down…
To get started, here are some questions to ask yourself when deciding what you want or looking for inspiration.
Want to buy and set loose diamonds?
Should I reset my current diamonds?
Want to change the stone cut?
Should I add more stones or another stone?
Buy a completely new ring?
Do you prefer lab-grown diamonds or natural stones?
What type of ring best fits my lifestyle?
Just update the band?
Should I change my current stone for another piece of jewelry (such as a cocktail ring or necklace)?
find a good jeweler

The process of upgrading your wedding ring
Since Bonnie was in California and I was in Texas, I was offered two processes. I was able to work with Bonnie on her Zoom to make a ring, or visit her store to meet in person. The online process has received glowing reviews from clients as Bonnie and her team create an effortless and seamless process.
The in-person consultation made me feel very special and it was a truly magical day.My husband and I received a warm welcome from Bonnie. She showed me to a table holding three loose stones surrounded by velvet holders. She sat with us and walked us through each stone and explained each detail. I was able to try it on too. Once I decided on a stone, I moved on to other options such as metal type, ring settings, and band width. She kindly and knowledgeably answered any questions we had along the way and made the process really easy!
After figuring out all the details, we celebrated with complimentary champagne. Of course, we had to take a picture of her in front of the iconic mirror in her YouTube video (above)!BTW, we actually interviewed Bonnie while she was in the store.Anyone interested can watch here Share more about our stories!
How long did it take?
This was the hardest! So excited to get my new ring! It took six weeks for the ring to be completed. It was shipped overnight and arrived safely in a ring box, inside two bubble mailers and inside a large box. A blue velvet ring box greeted me. Bonnie’s attention to detail continued right to the end. Such a great experience!
Other options for upgrading rings
We totally understand that not everyone will fly to California to design a new ring. Engrave an existing band with something sentimental, add a new wedding band to refresh the look of her stack of rings, or consider buying an all-new ring from one of her online jewelers like You can truth, ring concierge, cat bird, Missed, Zales, Kay JewelersAlso Jared.
Tip: If you don’t know what style you like, amazon fake rings wear at home. Get a feel for the shape, carat size, and overall look without spending a lot of money upfront on something you don’t know.
