The set of Stella McCartney’s Spring 2023 runway show, staged in a square outside the Pompidou Center in Paris, gave us a clue as to where the collection was heading.
Three bold lines of yellow, red and blue surround the rows of seats, mimicking the famous facade of this famous museum designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers. Models entered and exited the revolving door of the Pompidou, followed a path of a particular color through the audience, and photo where all three lanes meet in front of his pit where he gathered in groups of three. The collection is dominated by black, white and beige, allowing the piece to transcend seasonality, but is optimistic for spring 2023 with a palette of “limoncello” yellow, bubblegum pink, dusty blue, bright orange and mint green. welcome color splash. .
“This collection reaffirms the DNA and code of Stella,” Brand wrote in show notes. “Minimal and sensual, they will accentuate your silhouette and your wardrobe. Light pieces cut from soft fabrics will clash casual and formal.” Spring 2023 will feature 87% “conscious” fabrics, according to a press release. It features “the luxury industry’s first T-shirt made from recycled cotton”.
As the background suggests, art has been a big inspiration for McCartney this season, especially for Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. His slogan, ‘change history’, is featured on the show invitations and reappears in the collection. Like some of his illustrations, it spans ready-to-wear and accessories. The brand has announced the Yoshitomo Nara x Stella McCartney capsule for his December release.
