Plus-size fashion on the red carpet and center stage at the 74th Annual Emmy Awards

The Emmy Awards aired last night. I’m not a huge fan of award ceremonies per se, but I always show up at the plus-size bombshell that kills the red carpet. Or should I say Gold Carpet in this case? Last night, I was so excited to see fashion and styling from the 74th Annual Emmy Awards pouring into my timeline and my TV screen.

When it comes to major fashion events and red carpets, plus size people and styles are always in the minority, somewhere in between or never fully represented. There are restrictions, outright discrimination, and you can’t even list them.

Every big red carpet event is a reminder of how rare it is to see a plus size figure in high fashion and off the runway style. When I was younger, I used to wonder if fat women were even invited to major red carpet events! (I know, sounds crazy.)

So when you see plus size girlies of different body types appearing at award shows and being in these spaces, it gives them their due. Seeing plus-size fashion on the red carpet deserves a little time.

Plus size fashion on the red carpet– Emmy Awards

Riso

Tulle, tulle, and more tulle! The first look that caught my eye was, of course, the loudly gorgeous pop star who was nominated for six Emmy Awards. (And a winner!), Rizzo. She wore an extravagant red frilly dress and a high ban with Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Nicole Byer

Nicole Byer showed up wearing royal blue like the regal goddess she is. Who doesn’t love looking at plus size bellies and midriffs!? I know.

Nicole paired the fit with beautiful ombre blonde natural colored hair in an African Fulani style.

Natasha Rothwell swoons in a satin ruby red flowing puffy sleeve dress that reveals a bit of décolleté with a custom sapphire with Angara and Lang Antique jewellery. Her sleeves added the perfect essence to her smile and natural hairstyle.

Melanie Lynskey

Melanie Lynskey appeared in the Christian Siriano original. Mint green off the shoulder numbers, ruffles and a bit of tulle on the bottom. Melanie even spoke on her red carpet about how important her dress is to her and how happy she is to wear something that makes her feel comfortable.

Ashley Nicole Black

Ashley Nicole Black doesn’t just wow us onscreen “Black Lady Sketch Show” and she writes “Ted Lasso” But she also wowed on the gold carpet in a black gown with matching gloves! The mesh/see-through on the bottom half of the dress gave it plenty of sexiness, while the silver clutch and low bun gave it a classic Hollywood look. Summarize the appearance.

we need more Plus size fashion on the red carpet!

While plus-size designers and plus-size stylists are ready, there are still quite a few designers and stylists who refuse to style or work with stars who are 8/10 or larger, so it’s important to see this. That’s right, it’s 2022 and unfortunately this is still considered groundbreaking, so we’re going to celebrate these looks and moments.

And plus-size people deserve to see themselves glamorous and dazzling on Emmy carpets and anywhere high fashion is welcome and the norm.

A plus-size girl who showed off plus-size fashion on the red carpet won last night. that’s all.
