The salty, sea-kissed island of Nantucket was at the top of my list when it came to talking about destinations on my to-do list. The stone houses are somewhat cinematic, nostalgic and a bit mysterious. Hit the past in a different way. I’ve been romanticizing this place for years, so when the conversation came up about where to spend our 7th anniversary, I knew it had to be Nantucket.

The trip not only met my expectations, but exceeded them.we are from new york trade winds – With a private airport in White Plains (about an hour from the city) and a 45 minute direct flight to Nantucket, travel is very convenient.When I arrived, I checked in blue iris, a charming colonial-style boutique hotel filled with art and antiques. Designed to reflect a love of the seaside, rustic Mediterranean design and a Portuguese play of patterns, Blue Iris is the latest hotel created by Life His House Hotels in Nantucket. In just two weeks, it was so much fun to experience this property in harmony with nature, centrally located downtown just blocks from shops, restaurants and the beach. We especially liked the lush garden patio where complimentary morning coffee and breakfast are served. I couldn’t help but think that this space would make a great venue for an outdoor event. If Blue Iris is booked, try its sister property, Life House, which is just around the corner.

But one of the biggest surprises came from our culinary experience. I was afraid that the food on the island would be hit and miss, and that in a traditional town like Nantucket, it wouldn’t be on par with the food we’re used to in New York. Couldn’t be more wrong. Our days were spent shopping for antiques and sunbathing on the beach. And don’t forget to plan your afternoon nap time. The island has a sleepy time effect. We can’t wait to turn Nantucket into our annual summer family getaway. Next time Lucy will definitely participate. It was very family friendly.
