Fashion companies stepping up to fight Covid-19

Like many other industries, the world of fashion is also suffering from the effects of coronavirus. Most physical stores are closed and some production lines in Asia have been frozen for months. Retail stores are gradually reopening in some countries, but it remains to be seen how many will be able to recoup their losses.
As cases continue to rise around the world, calls for help from government officials have been answered by healthy fashion and beauty companies, many of which have suspended their production lines. Brands of sorts are finding ways they can by opening production lines to sew protective gear and offering donations to those most in need. gucci
The Italian brand donated €2 million to support relief efforts, with €1 million donated to the Italian Civil Protection Agency and another €1 million to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. Encourage followers to donate to WHO funds through #GucciCommunity. Gucci is also providing her 1.1 million surgical masks and her 55,000 medical overalls to healthcare workers in need.


LVMH
Luxury conglomerate LVMH has pledged to donate up to 40 million face masks made using Chinese suppliers. They have also started using their fragrance and cosmetics facility to produce large quantities of hydroalcoholic gel that will be donated to medical facilities in France.

Capri Holdings, the luxury fashion group that owns Michael Kors, Versace and Jimmy Choo, has donated $3 million to all three brands, including New York (Michael Kors), Milan (Versace) and London (Jimmy Choo).
In addition, Michael Kors himself and John Idle, CEO of Capri Holdings, will each personally donate an additional $1 million to organizations supporting coronavirus relief efforts.

British heritage brand Burberry has announced that it will donate time, money and resources to help with the pandemic. They will convert their Yorkshire, UK-based trench coat factory to produce non-surgical masks and gowns, and will donate over 100,000 surgical masks to the UK’s National Health Service. They also fund research being done at the University of Oxford to find a vaccine, and donate to British organizations that now feed those in need.

Classic French brand Chanel has chosen to keep all its employees during the crisis. He also mobilized a number of employees and their partners to produce his 50,000 face masks and protective blouses for his workers at Essential France. He also donated 1.2 million euros to the French emergency services.


H&M
Swedish fast fashion leader H&M uses its own production facility to manufacture personal protective equipment (PPE) that it donates to hospitals around the world. He also donated his $500,000 to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and uses social media platforms to spread health and safety messages. They also donated 70,000 items to US children’s organizations.
