The end of summer always comes too soon. As much as I love the changing seasons, almost all of my best childhood memories, and even now as an adult, come from summer time.
In Helsinki, Finland, the end of summer comes sooner than what I used to call the end of summer in Sibenik, Croatia. Those of you who have been reading this blog for years know that I have lived in Finland for the past 13 years and grew up in Croatia.
I am a very melancholic person and in a way I have a hard time “letting things go”. Sometimes I get too attached to the feeling of something: the best summer mood, the energy, the endless sunshine, the happy faces of passers-by.
As summer ends, we rethink the months since the beginning of the year. This is kind of my way of checking myself in. See what you did well, what you did wrong, and what you could do better. It’s not just about your work and your sense of success, but even more, if not more, how you feel and how you’re progressing as a person.
I hate wasting time on nothing and I try every day to be better than the day before. Of course, a job well done pushes you forward and gives you confidence. How many other people have you brought happiness to?
We live in extraordinary times, and just like the end of summer, I’m still clinging to my pre-‘pandemic’ sense of the world. , was able to find a way to make the most of this situation and embrace change.
I, like many of us, love to be in control and know what will happen next, but life is all predictable and change is inevitable. It’s easy to forget that we don’t have higher powers and that there’s actually very little we can control. That’s the law of the universe, and we now think this pandemic is one of the worst things that have happened to us in decades.Maybe it’s one of the best…
We may have been so bound by the security of our daily lives that we have lived more freely and carelessly than we were consciously aware of. Maybe we stopped growing as humans and too many things were getting too big, too expensive, or hyped. What are Earthlings really doing here on this planet? How open are our eyes and how ready are our ears to listen?
Isn’t it the perfect time to rethink everything? The whole structure of our society, how things work, what is important to whom and who is important, is as massive and without as we have become accustomed to. is also fully manageable.
Be humble, be grateful, and finally, it’s time to look at your neighbors, co-workers, friends, etc. and really care about how they’re doing, how you can help, and/or pay more attention. Here comes the little things in life, such as freedom of movement!
No matter how bad things seem, underneath is an awakening, and we may be able to bring about the positive change in the world that we so desperately need right now.
The end of summer is melancholic for me and I miss Šibenik most of all.
