– Soft Swerve –

Soft swerve first! I love the trend of incorporating unusual ingredients into desserts. From black charcoal coconut ash ice cream to raindrop cake, New York City has a wide variety of very unique desserts.

In 2017, the UB boom hit New York and Soft Swerve opened. Soft Swerve, which offers ube soft serve ice cream with matcha, black sesame, and of course the infamous purple swirl, is home to a variety of unique tastings. Ube soft serve is a root vegetable and is commonly known as purple yam found in the Philippines and other Asian countries. Soft Swerve’s ube is a triumph in my book and a must-see. Give it a try if you’re in the area.

– Gelato Institute –

Next is Laboratorio gelato! One of his favorite travel destinations of mine is Italy, the country of the most incredible gelato. Therefore, I was a happy girl when I came across Il Laboratorio Del Gelato. Il Laboratorio Del Gelato, located directly across from Katz’s Delicatessen (“I’ll prepare what she has!”), offers nearly 300 different flavors, from decadent hazelnut amaretto her crunch to exotic cactus pear. We offer flavors. What makes this gelato shop special is that they are constantly developing and experimenting with new flavors in their open kitchen. They treat their kitchens as custom labs.

For those who miss authentic Italian gelato, a visit to Laboratorio Gelato is highly recommended. You can try some of the classic flavors as well as some of the more unique and exotic flavors.

– Ample Hills Creamery –

Next is Ample Hills! If you’re looking for flavors that are super sweet and decadent, Ample Hills is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Ample Hills offers zany and seriously creative flavors, moving away from the classic flavors (albeit offered) and shedding light on creating their own flavors.

Each Ample Hills location features Astoria Spot’s “Nectar of the Queens,” a smooth honey-cinnamon ice cream base topped with generous baklava and galaktobreco (a creamy custard pie, with a crisp phyllo crust on loan from local bakery Artopolis Bakery. They also offer pretzel cones, creating a sweet + salty combination with ice cream.

152 West 10th Street, New York

– Van Leeuwen –

To Van Leeuwen! Van Leeuwen sold his buttercup yellow ice cream truck in New York and Los Angeles to great popularity. Having stores in both cities, especially New York, made it even more popular. Van Leeuwen offers classic flavors, but it’s his vegan ice cream that really shines.

Their vegan flavors are beautifully creamy and smooth, with each flavor profile standing out.Van Leeuwen’s vegan flavors are made with a combination of homemade cashew milk, coconut oil, and cocoa butter. I honestly can’t tell the difference between vegan and non-vegan taste! And if you’re looking for the perfect photo opportunity on a hot summer’s day, I can confirm that vegan ice cream doesn’t melt in the sun as much as regular ice cream (back to the Ample Hills photo). The go-to vegan flavor is Vegan Cookie Crumble Strawberry Jam.

-Dominic Ansel-

I love Love watermelon! Colin and I put it in everything. From making smoothies to flavored waters, watermelon is your go-to fruit. And finally, we reach our final destination, Dominic Ansel!

Three words, watermelon soft cream! What-a-Melon sorbet in a giant slice of watermelon is incredibly refreshing. When I took my first bite, I had no idea what else was in the sorbet. The flavor profile is effervescent and reminds me of sparkling lemonade. It turned out that watermelon sorbet mixed with sea salt and lime zest seasoning gave it a nice fizz! Furthermore, there are even chocolate seeds on the outside of the watermelon!

This dessert is expensive at $10 per slice, but it’s worth it. The portions are quite large and enough for two people to share. Dominique Ansel is serving her What-a-Melon only during the summer months, so stop by before September starts.Only available at West Village locations from 3:00pm to 9:00pm Wednesday to Thursday, 12:00pm – 10:00pm Friday through Saturday, and 12:00pm to 9:00pm on sunday.
