10 things to do in New York (for free!)

N.

Summer in New York City is honestly one of the best times of the year. No matter the heat, humidity or heat, NYC rewards us with community action and great events. Here are 10 things to do in New York this summer. Most of them are free.

1. Bryant Park Movie Night

When I was in LA dreaming of moving to New York, this was one thing I’ve dreamed of all along! Watching a movie at sunset with skyscrapers in the background in the middle of a busy city. Now here, it’s as magical as I dreamed!

Bryant Park Movie Nights shows free movies every Monday. Food and drinks are allowed (no alcohol!). There is a Whole Foods directly across from the park and plenty of food vendors around the area for plenty of options for evening meals.as soon as the grass opens 5 pmwithin seconds most of it is covered in colorful blankets and throws (the actual movie doesn’t start until around 9pm). It’s a group get-together and a girls’ night out activity.

2. Museum Days

New York City is home to some of the world’s best museums with an impressive roster of museums spanning art, history and culture. Even more impressive, NYC offers free admission to over 20 different museums. Most of these museums have free admission only on certain days and times, but most of them also pay what you want policy.

With stunning architecture all around, views of Central Park directly opposite and a towering skeleton of a Barosaurus dinosaur, the Natural History Museum is one of my favorite museums in the city. Other museums on your wishlist: The Frick Collection, The Sculpture Center, The Cloisters, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and many more!

3. Gallery tour

One of New York City’s unique features is its long list of art galleries open to the public. Two of my favorites of his are the Perrotin Gallery and the Tinakim Gallery.

The Perrotin Gallery is truly inspiring. A current exhibition dedicated to the work of street artist JR. Hailing from Paris, the Perrotin Gallery takes you to a place where you can immerse yourself in conversations about social justice. JR’s work is on display until August 17th (honestly, I wish it was extended). Come see it before it’s gone!

The Tina Kim Gallery is so peaceful and beautiful. Located in the heart of the Arts District just below the High Line, the gallery is known for its focus on international contemporary artists and curated shows. With its pristine interior, polished concrete floors, and walls painted all white, this gallery exudes tranquility and calmness.
